Read this if you were one of those kids like me. It was a wonderful experience, and Tom's narration on the audiobook was perfection. I recommend giving it a listen! From Borrower to wizard, Tom Felton's childhood was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame saw him catapulted into the limelight aged just twelve when he landed the iconic role of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films.

It’s worth noting, too, that Tom stayed away from mentioning J.K. Rowling too much and his praise of her was minimal. I think she was mentioned by name only four times in this book and that was a really smart move to mention her so little since J.K. Rowling is engaging in so much hateful rhetoric online. Finally, an actor giving real and interesting info. I normally bypass parts of biographies where well-known people go on (and on) about their childhood because this is usually all ultra goodie-goodie and boring. But Felton's childhood was written about very well, kept me intrigued because when on hiatus away from the Potter filming and in his private life, he was not at all a little goodie-goodie. A little bit naughty?Book Genre: Adult, Autobiography, Biography, Biography Memoir, Culture, Memoir, Nonfiction, Pop Culture Take a trip into the magical world of Harry Potter with one of the films’ biggest stars, Tom Felton. Celebrating the publication of his new book Beyond The Wand– a magical coming-of-age memoir – Tom will bring the audience behind the scenes of the iconic films and reveal what it was really like playing Harry Potter's wizarding nemesis, Draco Malfoy.

Here's my side note ~ there is quite a bit of swearing. I know this is an adult book, but I feel that maybe some parents would read/listen to this one with their Harry Potter loving children, just like I did. Yes my daughter is older and it's not anything she hasn't heard before, but it might not be suitable for the younger ones. If you're of a certain age... Then you read, watched, and/or consumed media about a certain series. You know the one I mean. You're reading this review, and it's for a memoir about one of the actors. This series' prevalence in our popular culture has permeated the veil of basic cultural knowledge—for good or for ill—and it is a massive part of my generation's upbringing and cultural sense of identity. Tom teased the announcement on social media yesterday with a carefully worded post. It didn’t take long for fans to figure out that the capitalized letters formed an anagram of the book’s title. It's funny, fun, poignant towards the end. Fantastic anecdotes, lovely to read about Tom's family, friends and life. it's not one of those cases where I want to quote paragraphs upon paragraphs, or write paragraphs upon paragraphs, there's beauty in the story, the whole of it, the pieces coming together. which is to say, it makes you feel, and that's an unquestionable literary achievement.Tom Felton’s BEYOND THE WAND is an entertaining, funny, and poignant must-read for any Harry Potter fan. Prepare to meet a real-life wizard. Tom Felton has penned a brilliant memoir about growing up playing an iconic role in the series. . . [W]ith the type of honesty that comes with time and self-reflection, Felton also writes about his past struggles with alcohol and his time in rehab. It’s a beautiful memoir — with a forward by Emma Watson herself — that captures the heart, charm, and wittiness of the man beyond the wand."― Buzzfeed i just love how much tom felton loves harry potter... because same. i read this via audiobook the past few days at work and it was SO good! i really enjoyed tom felton's narration, it made it really personal. i also really enjoyed hearing more about his childhood and what it was like to be on the harry potter set! you could really tell how much he appreciated the opportunity to have been in harry potter, and how much the relationships be made with everyone impacted his life positively. it was so cute how he had a chapter talking about emma, rupert and daniel individually, and i don't care what he claims, him and emma watson are in love!!! An honest, at times humorous, and entertaining memoir that movie buffs, especially Harry Potter fans, will enjoy."― Library Journal Beyond the Wand ] is full of colorful Wizarding World lingo, referring to “aparrating” objects and his “muggle family,” making it fun for die-hard “Harry Potter” fans. . . It’s basically a wizarding world gold mine."― Deseret News
