Riley RS2 electric scooter review: Price and competition Another important factor to consider is longevity. When you buy a high-quality RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter, you’re making an investment that is likely to last longer. Cheaper products may seem like a good deal at the time, but they are often made with lower-quality materials and are not designed to last as long. This means that you may end up having to replace your device sooner, which can end up costing you more in the long run.

For your money, the Riley RS2 comes with a powerful 350W motor, 10in pneumatic tyres and a 12.8Ah battery with a quoted maximum range of 28 miles per charge. It’s very easy to get tied up in motor this, wattage that, an often overlooked element of performance is the tyres. The Riley RS1 has 10” pneumatic tyres that provide plenty of grip and help smooth out imperfections of the road surface. I’m not a fan of honeycomb or solid tyres, and at Electroheads we think that the bigger wheels are significantly safer and better all-round. One other thing to mention is that the Kirin is not classed as waterproof. Now this may or may not be a dealbreaker for your intended use cases. After all, if you’re camping and need to whizz to the loos on your scooter (for a whizz!) then you need to be able to go whatever the weather. However, if you’re more likely to only use the scooter on dry day blasts then you can overlook this negative. Horses for courses as they say! The front wheel houses a 350W hub motor which is capable of running at a not-inconsiderate 700W peak power at maximum throttle. This means a top speed of about 15.5 mph (25kph) can be reached which is more than enough for me – I was getting the jitters at around 10mph! The top speed is software limited, and you are likely to void the one-year warranty if any attempts at modifying this are made. The RS1’s bright blue cabling is a nice touch, matching the colour of the thumb throttle accelerator on the right of the handlebar and logo on the stem. The chunky, aluminium stem looks the part, too. It’s much broader than other e-scooters we’ve tested but it lends the RS1 a purposeful, robust look. Weighing 15kg, the Riley RS2 isn’t the heaviest e-scooter on the market, nor is it the lightest. It has a weather rating of IP54, which means it can be used in puddles and light rain, and it’s also built to carry a maximum load of 100kg. Where the Xiaomi does shine is the LED lighting system. It’s about the best we’ve seen on a scooter, having front, rear and multiple side lights for excellent visibility. This is an excellent development – you can never have enough lights on something that can do 15.5mph in the dark. The in-built triple braking system let’s you ride fast and in-control with three brakes; a hydraulic disc brake, E-ABS brake & pedal brake. The Hummingbird uses a 300W electric motor with regenerative braking and can reach the UK maximum-allowed speed of 15.5mph with ease. Point it towards a hill and it’s equally at home but the speed of climbing depends on the weight it has to carry. At 95kg (15 stone), it struggled on gradients more than about 10% but still got up most stuff.

The wheels are 8.5 inches with puncture-proof solid tyres. The front wheel has an e-brake via the motor and there is also a disk brake in the rear wheel – this is reassuring! In terms of performance, the RS1 has plenty of zip from its 350W motor. Under peak acceleration, the motor can supply 700W which can get you up to a limited max speed of 15.5mph.

ELECTRIC SCOOTERS FOR KIDS

READ NEXT: Are e-scooters legal in the UK? Riley RS1 electric scooter review: What you need to know The motor on the E365 is 350W average power and the voltage is 42V as opposed to the typical 36V seen on most electric scooters in this range of operation. This gives it some decent pep but uplifts the weight to 13kg. This is a manageable weight but you can definitely feel it if you are lifting for more than a few minutes. Range is better than average for this price point at around 15-20 miles maximum depending on your weight. The Riley RS1 comes with front and rear lights and only weighs 13kg and comes with 1 year warranty - Provided by Riley Directly TECHNICAL DATA:
