There were only two things I would have done differently but just the fact that a lot of the book seemed to go on too long prevents me from giving this book 5 stars as I feel it could have been better. This was as always full of gritty and informative characters that kept me wanting to read more and could not put down. Someone appears to be wanting to start a crime war with everyone thinking that the Ryan's are responsible. Her books are heavy and draining but also very realistic of life and that is always a breath of fresh air. I had previously read author Martina Cole´s excellent novel "Ladykiller" and decided to give "Maura´s Game" a try in hopes that it would rise to the same level. The characters are memorable and seem to leap off the pages of the book and almost have a real life of their own. Again, in "Ladykiller" Cole wrote in a strong narrative voice, so strong, in fact, that what is a long novel fairly flew by.We know you'll be hooked on Maura Ryan, so be sure to first read the gripping prequel to MAURA'S GAME, DANGEROUS LADY.
